Grassroots Films new vocation video for New York
American Papist has posted this vocations video today. Quite well done, I have seen some of the video technique before from Grassroots Films, specifically that cool effect of blurring part of the picture. Any ideas what software they are using for software? Also, is Grassroots Films a Catholic company? I see they are based out of New York, so I guess that makes sense they worked on this project.
If a picture speaks 1000 words, what does that say about video?
Many of the web development shops in my area also do video production, ect. With some online newspapers even producing video, has web development gotten to the point where just text isn't enough without audio and/or video?

Yeah.... Best.Vocation.Video.Eva.
Probably using Final Cut Pro.
Jumping into multimedia may seem tricky at first...but it needs to be done by more Catholics. As PJPII said, 'Be Not Afraid'. Heck, all you need to is a $150 Flip video camcorder and iMovie and you can put together something decent and basic. Once you've got that down and you're feeling creatively restrained by HW/SW, consider leaping into Final Cut Pro and a prosumer level video camcorder.
My day gig is a Catholic Newsie and we incorporate as much as we can...text/audio/video. My wish is that our reporters each had a decent camera, camcorder, and audio recorder in their gig bag whenever they're out in the field...but alas that is not (yet?) to be.
RE: the Grassroots question. I believe the 2 main guys that made the Human Experience documentary are Catholic. We ran a story about them awhile back: http://tinyurl.com/lxjs2l
The blur effect, probably best known as the 'tilt-shift' effect can be achieved either using a specialized lens, or manually blurring the fore/background in post.
They do a pretty awesome job with their videos; if only some Catholic entity had the money to keep an organization like theirs inside the Church for use on internal projects! New York seems to have the funding... but most other Dioceses can't allocate money in such ways :(
Advancing the faith.
@catholicservant Cool, thanks. I guess I should check The Catholic Spirit first to get the scoop! :) I also liked the Fisher of Men if you have seen that one before. It's a bit longer I think . It's amazing with the costs so much lower now that not only is a reporter a writer, but a photographer, cameraman, ect.. Sort of like a web developer, we wear many hats!
@oscatholic Thanks, it is an awesome affect. I've also seen it used on CatholicVote videos. I would love to learn how to do it.
