OSC Logo Ideas?
It'd be pretty awesome if we could create a great, clean logo to be used for Open Source Catholic. Right now the Twitter account and such all use a simple wordmark (OSC), but a good logo that prints, displays, and looks great would be quite beneficial, I think.
Any ideas for what it should look like? How it should be styled? Please let us know!
I'm working up a couple quick sketches in illustrator. One is based on this http://www.classicalastrology.org/isidore.jpg which is from De Natura Rerum, a book written by Saint Isadore, the patron saint of computer programmers (officially and unofficially depending on the source). The other is sort of based on the Open Source circle and keyhole seen here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/architecture/opensource.aspx except that this circle will have the keys to the kingdom incorporated instead of a keyhole.
The logo needs to be simple and graphic so it is easily identified and easily reproduced in all forms from print to web to video. I'll link to my sketches when they are done and people can chime in with thoughts and comments.
Here are a couple quick sketches of what I'm thinking. Let me know what you think. I need a little more time to play with some 3D treatments of them, maybe superimposed on a sphere or something like that. http://lappedcatholic.blogspot.com/2009/06/illustrator-sketch-idea-for-o...
Okay, very good. Any suggestions as per color or tweaks etc.?
I'll play around with some type possibilities for the words Open Source Catholic.
I've added a gradient as you suggested. You can view it at the same blog post. All feedback is appreciated.

I'm glad you like it. I'm more than happy to license the image and file. I guess I'm so used to "work for hire" that I wasn't really thinking about licensing. As long as I can get a link back to my site somewhere I'll be more than happy. Just let me know what formats and sizes you want the image in or if you just need the AI file. I'll zip them/it up and email it whereever you say.
Wow, that logo is awesome! Definitely a good idea. *sniffle* Some of us can't afford major adobe products though. I would have used inkscape, gimp, and paint.net. :P
Jeff...did you bribe him to make it a Drupally color? :)
Seriously though...it's great. Very Web 2.0.
