I found this site the other day... geeksandgod.com/

Some similarities with this site, but it's more Protestant leaning...though I'm sure they're open to some fisheaters.

Fisheaters ;-)

LOL, yes. I've frequented that site as well; this site is meant mostly for the Catholic community, but has a bit of crossover with them. They do a lot of good work!

One major difference I see, though, is that my personal mission is often to help people in the Catholic heirarchy understand that the web is an important avenue for evangelization. A lot of the 'Geeks and God' audience has leaders who already understand and promote using new technologies as tools for spreading the Christian faith.

But I think we can all thrive together.

Noble Mission

Having worked in the Catholic Church for 7 years (which is a drop in the bucket of course) I sadly have to report that 'it's going to take awhile.'

For the MOST part, it's a generational thing and the younger Catholics understand and use technology fairly effectively. The problem there though is that Catholic young adult participation has been devastated by modernism/secularism and most have drifted into either unorthodox Catholic theology, Protestant sects, or have abandoned the Faith completely.

nuff bad news. The GOOD news is that although the young Catholic Church is smaller, it seems to be very orthodox and loyal to Catholic Tradition. I like to call them...the Remnant.

Good Analysis

Haha! Well, it's a good overview; as I myself work in the Church, I struggle with this issue on a daily basis, but I see a lot of improvement!

I also struggle

I work at a Sister community as the development director and having gotten the Sisters on-line, now I find myself in the curious position of actually represenitng them here (i am not a Sister, just a staff person) because few of the Sisters want to activly participate on-line.  BUT that is where many younger Catholics are thriving in communities like this, and many others i have found. ANd bringin more younger folks in is a major hurdle. imho.

...but it's definitely a hurdle we can overcome! It will take prayer, but more importantly, the personal relationships and examples of you, me and everyone else on this site and around the Catholic web :-)
