Archdiocese of St. Louis' Eucharistic Congress Website
One of the last major projects I was privileged to work on (along with some other awesome colleagues) while I was working as the Director of Web Development for the Archdiocese of St. Louis (see 'A New Job' on my blog for more info) was the Eucharistic Congress website and video.
One of the major benefits of using a robust content management system like Drupal (which archstl.org uses) is that you can actually build 'special sites' that highlight certain events or causes without building an...

Bloggers' Summit at the Vatican
Yesterday the Vatican held its first-ever summit of Catholic bloggers, just a day after the extensive celebration of the Beatification of Pope John Paul II. Many Catholic bloggers from the U.S. attended, and you can view a pretty exhaustive play-by-play in Lisa Hendey's Twitter stream (view the hundreds of tweets from May 1!).
From a report by the Catholic News Service, Richard Rouse said the following on the purpose of the summit:
Continue readingThe Vatican meeting, he said, was not designed as a how-to seminar, and it was not aimed at...

College Students - Addicted to Media
This article gives us reason for pause:
Continue readingWhat do college students in China, Chile, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Uganda have in common? According to a new global study by the University of Maryland's International Center for Media & the Public Affairs (ICMPA) and the Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change, they're all addicted to media. That might not seem like news—after all, there's a reason the term "CrackBerry" came into being—but just how severely students are addicted is startling, and has real implications for our schools...

Catholic News Live - Simple iPhone App for Catholic News
About a week after completing work on the first release of the Archdiocese of St. Louis' "Catholic STL" app, I decided to spend a few nights and weekends working on a more personal project...
A few months ago, I was browsing the App Store, looking for a simple Catholic news app where I could quickly browse through the latest Catholic news from a relatively comprehensive array of sources. Seeing none, and realizing that my experimental 'Catholic News Live' website already had the data I needed to build my...

Creative Marketing by Microsoft at DrupalCon Chicago
As seen at DrupalCon Chicago (in the program book):
I think the IE development and marketing team at Microsoft 'gets' the situation, and is being very creative about it's efforts in promoting IE9 (case in point: IE6 Countdown). As to how far IE9 will ultimately go towards stemming web developers' collective hatred toward Explorer as a platform... that remains to be seen.
The ad above reads:
Dear Web Developer,
We are so very sorry about IE6.
Come have a drink on us at the Opening Night Party. Also, stop...

Diocesan website
Hi, y'all. I'm the communications director/newspaper editor for a diocese in the Great Lakes area. Currently we have a proprietary solution that strikes me (and I don't want to go into detail) as both expensive and limited. (Not a good combination!) I have some other issues with it too.
I'm an open source fan personally (Linux at home now for the past several months after a[nother] Vista crash gave me that finally push), I know Wordpress CMS pretty well (on wp.com hosted sites), I've played a bit with Joomla and...

Archdiocese of St. Louis' New iPhone App
There's plenty of posts about this already, which I won't repeat here, instead, read the reports below:
And, straight from the horse's mouth, here's the app's page on the Archdiocesan website.
This iPhone App kind of snuck up on me from under my radar; I was in the middle of two rather large projects in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, when I thought "Hmm... I've wanted to try my hand at an iPhone App...
